PRC’s National Health Survey Brief: Rural Health in the US

June 23, 2026

In many ways, rural Americans experience health and health care differently from their urban counterparts. Rural communities tend to be older with increasing health needs, while health care resources in rural areas are often scarce and/or geographically distant. Through the PRC National Health Survey, it is possible to understand the experience of rural Americans by isolating the national survey data among respondents living in US counties designated as “nonmetropolitan” by the National Center for Health Statistics Urban-Rural Classification Scheme for Counties (https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data-analysis-tools/urban-rural.html).
