In many ways, LGBTQ+ adults bear a greater burden from the social drivers that impact health. Social drivers of health are the conditions in the environments where people are born, live, learn, work, play, worship, and age that affect a wide range of health, functioning, and quality-of-life outcomes and risks. Housing security and stability are concerns, with LGBTQ+ Americans more often reporting frequent worry about making their next rent or mortgage payment or experiencing episodes of displacement or being unhoused.
They are also more likely to live in residences with ongoing issues (e.g., mold, insects, water leaks) that make living there unhealthy or unsafe. LGBTQ+ Americans are even less food secure than Americans overall.
